I has occured to me that we should pay more attention to the triggers of afib. We see a lot about ablations but not much is said about what causes afib. I have a hiatal hernis which can be aggravated by heavy lifting, overeating, constipation and the strain needed for a bowel movement, spicy food or any activity that causes the heart to receive pressure through the hernia.

I wonder if the hernia can be one of the triggers for afib. When my hernia is at its worst, I develop pain similar to a heart attack and accompanying symptoms. Hard to convince my cardiologist that I have these hernia caused attacks.

Many of my afib incidents are preceded by the hiatal attack. Just a coincidence? I think not.
