Did you know that women who have atrial fibrillation are at higher risk from stroke and stroke death than men?

Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and atrial fibrillation, an irregular and often rapid heart rate, is the most common type of abnormal heart rhythm. But there is nothing common about living or dying with this disease.

Stroke and heart failure are devastating complications of atrial fibrillation. In fact, atrial fibrillation is responsible for 15 to 20 percent of ischemic strokes and increases one’s risk of suffering an ischemic stroke by five times.

Women with AF have a much more pronounced risk for stroke and cardiovascular death than men.  Hear the stories from women living with AF and from one of the leading cardiologists treating women with AF.
