  • Summary: Dr. Prystowsky: one of the world’s foremost afib experts
  • Reading time: 2–3 minutes

This year, we are extending the warmest possible welcome to Eric N. Prystowsky, MD, who will present at the 2020 Get in Rhythm. Stay in Rhythm.® Virtual Atrial Fibrillation Patient Conference Friday afternoon.

Dr. Prystowsky, one of the world’s foremost experts on afib and a longtime friend of StopAfib.org and member of our Board of Directors, will discuss why sinus rhythm is so important for afib patients over the long term, and what you and your doctor should consider in deciding which treatments are right for you.

Dr. Prystowsky, Director of the Clinical Electrophysiology Laboratory at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, has shared his expertise at five of our previous annual conferences, and he has played a major role in ensuring patients have a spot at the table as doctors develop guidelines for afib treatment.

He’s such an advocate for afib patients, in fact, that in 2013, he was the first recipient of the StopAfib.org Advocate for Patients Award—and we later renamed the award to honor him. We bestow the Eric N. Prystowsky, MD Advocate for Patients Award annually at our patient conference.

In addition to co-authoring two textbooks, Cardiac Arrhythmias: An Integrated Approach for the Clinician and Clinical Electrophysiology Review, Dr. Prystowsky has authored more than 700 publications concerning cardiac arrhythmias. He is the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology and is on the editorial board of 16 journals, including Circulation.

During his presentation Friday afternoon at the patient conference, Dr. Prystowsky will discuss what “symptomatic afib” means and how treatment differs for symptomatic vs. asymptomatic afib, as well as whether patients should try a catheter ablation first. He’ll participate in a panel Q&A at the end of the afternoon session and then the “How to Get the Best Care” panel at the end of the day.

We’ve heard from numerous past conference attendees that they find Dr. Prystowsky’s presentations so incredibly valuable, and they look forward to them year after year.

If you’d like to join us this year, you can register below. It’s coming up in just a few short weeks, October 30–November 1, and we’d love to “see” you there!
