ACTION REQUESTED: Tell Your U.S. Representative to Support Atrial Fibrillation Awareness
September 21, 2008 6:20 AM CT
The designation of September as Atrial Fibrillation Month is currently included in the register of dates, Chase’s Calendar of Events. A resolution has now been introduced into the U.S. Congress requesting that September be officially recognized as “National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month.”
On September 15, a resolution was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives designating September 2009 as “National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month.” The purpose of the resolution (H.Res. 1439) is to raise awareness of atrial fibrillation and to draw attention about why it constitutes a serious public health problem that warrants greater public education and research.
The resolution was introduced by Rep. C.A. Ruppersberger (D-MD), Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), and Rep. Charles Gonzalez (D-TX). The resolution and a list of its current cosponsors can be found at this link:
Please take a moment to call or email your representative and ask he/she to cosponsor H.Res. 1439, designating September 2009 as “National Atrial Fibrillation Month.”
To reach your representative by phone, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your representative’s office.
If you need help identifying your representative, simply go to http://www.house.gov and enter your zip code in the top left corner of the page. From here you can link to your representative’s website where you can send an email if that is your preferred method of communication.
The 110th Congress is coming to a close, but it is important that we work to build a solid base of cosponsors this year with the hope that it will lead to the resolution’s early reintroduction next year and swift passage. A resolution needs at least 100 cosponsors before it is brought to the House floor for a vote. A vote on this resolution and its eventual passage requires your grassroots involvement!
Please take a moment today to let your representative know why his/her cosponsorship of H.Res. 1439 is important to you.
