Provide a Patient Review List Your Services with Us

This page provides information about a featured electrophysiologist, cardiologist, cardiothoracic surgeon, hospital, heart hospital, arrhythmia center, or atrial fibrillation center.

On this page you will find information about this atrial fibrillation patient services provider's specialized atrial fibrillation treatments, such as catheter ablation, maze surgery, or the mini maze procedure, as well as the provider's afib procedure results, if available.

The link back to the Full Profile will take you to a profile of this provider that has background, an overview of the atrial fibrillation treatments provided, and a link to reviews by other afib patients, if available.

Specialized Procedures and Results

Dr. Beaver has a wide array of clinical interests including thoracic aortic surgery, the surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation and minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve operations. Dr. Beaver also specializes in surgery for heart failure including high-risk coronary artery bypass, surgical restoration of the ventricle ("the Dor procedure"), ventricular assist devices and heart and lung transplantation.

  • Surgery for Atrial Fibrillation including the "Mini-maze" and "Maze" operations.
  • Minimally Invasive Mitral and Aortic Valve Repair and Replacement
  • Stent grafting for Thoracic Aortic Surgery: TEVAR "Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair" (Minimally Invasive Technique)
  • Surgical Restoration of the Ventricle - The "Dor" Procedure.
  • Prevention of Renal Failure in High Risk Cardiac Surgery
  • Heart and Lung Transplantation
  • Pulmonary Hypertension - management in the Cardiac Surgery patient
  • Ventricular Assist Devices
  • Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms - Ascending, Arch, Descending and Thoracoabdominal
  • Marfan's Syndrome / Thoracic Aortic Disease

Research Projects

  • Dr. Beaver's clinical research efforts focus on making cardiac and aortic surgery safer and easier for patients through minimally invasive techniques and improved postoperative management. He is involved in multiple clinical trials evaluating newer technologies including safer cannulas, TEVAR "Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair" or "stent-grafting" for thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections, renal protective strategies and avoiding cardiopulmonary bypass altogether.
  • Laboratory investigations include projects studying the inflammatory response following cardiac surgery and understanding ways to improve the ablation strategies for atrial fibrillation.
  • Comparative Analysis of Atrial Ablation Strategies Using an Image-intensified Charge Coupled Device (CCD) Optical Recording System: Principal Investigator in collaboration with Dr. William Ditto Phd, Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Engineering -- our laboratory employs an optical mapping system to examine electrical activity near ablation lines. 2002-present.
  • Surgical Treatment for Ischemic Heart Failure (STICH) trial: NIH sponsored, randomized, prospective trial evaluating medical therapy versus CABG versus CABG/Dor procedure in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy; Study Site Surgical Principal Investigator; 2002-present.
  • Prophylactic use of Nesiritide for the Prevention of Acute Renal Failure in Thoracic Aortic Surgery Patients. Co-Principal Investigator, 2005-present.
  • The impact of prophylactic treatment with AP214 (alphaMSH Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone analogue) on the proinflammatory interleukin response and postoperative renal function in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting; Principal Investigator 2007-present.
