2019 Atrial Fibrillation Patient Conference Friday Afternoon Program

Faculty members and what we’ve asked them to talk about

As we continue to work with our distinguished faculty members regarding the topics on which they’ll present at the 2019 Get in Rhythm. Stay in Rhythm.® Atrial Fibrillation Patient Conference, which is August 9–11 in Dallas, I’m looking forward to the event more than ever!

You can still get early bird pricing on registration, here:

In the meantime, the members of the StopAfib.org team continue to work on the agenda. Here’s what you can expect to hear on Friday afternoon.

(Again, please keep in mind this is not the complete agenda.)

Dr. Elaine Hylek: Medications for Preventing Strokes

Dr. Hylek will talk about how to determine your stroke risk from afib, how doctors decide whether a person needs a blood thinner, what the blood thinner options are, and the pros and cons of different blood thinners. We’ve also asked her to answer some of the questions we hear most frequently from people living with afib, including whether you need to stop blood thinners for afib and non-afib surgeries and procedures (such as dental procedures).

Dr. Randy Lee: Devices for Preventing Strokes

We’ve featured this topic during previous conferences, but we’re honored to have Dr. Randy Lee as a new faculty member to talk about Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Occlusion as an option for preventing strokes! He’ll talk about how to choose between left atrial appendage occlusion and blood thinners, what are the various options for left atrial appendage occlusion and how to choose which device, and what patients can expect in having one of these procedures.

Getting the Best Care Panel

During this panel discussion—which is always one of our most popular sessions—Doctors Jodie Hurwitz, Elaine Hylek, Peter Kowey, Randy Lee, and Eric Prystowsky will discuss which doctors to see for what, how to communicate with your doctor, and how to work most effectively with your healthcare team (from their perspective!). We’ll discuss such topics as what to do if you don’t understand what your doctor is telling you, how to know when to call a doctor after hours versus when to head to the emergency room, and even what things patients do that drive their doctors crazy (and what to do instead).

Friday evening, we’ll host the VIP Reception, where you can visit with and get to know other attendees, experts, and sponsor representatives. When you register, go ahead and get an All Access registration so you can join us. You may be able to upgrade your General Admission later to add the reception, but only if there are spots still available.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference!
