September 6, 2012

  • Summary:  Two Congressional briefings will focus on atrial fibrillation for National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month in September.
  • Reading time, including for briefing invitations, is 2–4 minutes

For National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month in September, it’s important that we raise the awareness of our Congressional leaders about atrial fibrillation and the associated risk of stroke. Over the next two weeks, there will be two Congressional Briefings for this purpose.

On September 11, WomenHeart is sponsoring the first Congressional briefing on Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke Risk in Women. StopAfib.org is one of the partners in this event. The presenter will be nationally-recognized women’s cardiovascular disease expert Annabelle Volgman, MD, of the Rush Heart Center for Women. Our DC-based operations manager, Melissa, will represent StopAfib.org as Mellanie has a prior commitment.

On September 18, StopAfib.org and the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) are co-sponsoring a Congressional Briefing on “Do you know what Atrial Fibrillation feels like?” Presenters at this briefing will be Hugh Calkins, MD, FHRS, a world-renowned expert on atrial fibrillation and HRS Incoming President, and Mellanie True Hills, an Afib patient and CEO and Founder of StopAfib.org.
