Atrial Fibrillation Resource on Maze Surgery

StopAfib.org - For Patients. By Patients - Stop Atrial Fibrillation

In Atrial Fibrillation Patient Discussion Forums, we mentioned the A-fibcures group, which focuses on non-pharmaceutical atrial fibrillation cures.

Much of the recent group discussion has centered on understanding the confusing and ever-changing landscape of atrial fibrillation surgery. Group moderator, Carl Plaskett, reached out to THE authority on the Maze procedure, Dr. Jim Cox, known as the “Father of Maze Surgery”, to provide some clarity around atrial fibrillation surgery.

Dr. Cox was kind enough to write up a brief white paper. It’s a fascinating look at where we are, and where we have been, in trying to cure atrial fibrillation.

I find it a biggg nuisance as im verry active and travel a lot . As I teach in Quebec every two months. so what are they waithing for hehehe I dont want to wait untill im 90 do have this done . Is it that dangerous? Also when I am AF ,,,do I have to limit my workload (exersize)? please let me know thanks in advance Peter.V

    Peter,

Maybe it’s time for a second opinion. It’s your decision -not their’s. Only you can decide when the hassle is life-impairing and you’re ready for a procedure or solution.

Are you working with an electrophysiologist (a cardiologist that specializes in heart rhythms)? If not, that might help.

As far as exercise and workload, that’s something to discuss with the doctor because we are each unique and what works for some doesn’t work for others.

    Good luck.

I have had permanent sole Atrial fib with no other heart problems or conditions. I was playing competition squash before this I got this. I have had it for 7 months. I am age 65 and live in Australia. I am considering having the Minimal invasion 5 box maze procedure by Dr John Sirak. Has anyone had this procedure by Dr Sirak ?? Was it a success?? Have there been any problems ?? Thanks in advance.

      Nicholas,

You might ask around and see if anyone in Australia does the TTM (Totally Thoracoscopic Maze) – Dr. Sirak’s 5Box TTM is a variation of that.
